Ambleside – Week 1

As we have been delivered this project, we already started to work on it as put into groups and discuss some things that we could do. At first most of us were on zoom meeting and just shared thoughts and ideas while also looking at some things. Even though I wasn’t really keen about the idea that this project is sports related, since I’m not a big fan of it, but I wanted to take it as a challenge and see where it would take me.

Firstly, while we were on the very first meeting with my team, I looked on official Ambleside website, I figured this football club is in Nuneaton and we all agreed that a lot of football teams has a mascot based of on where the team is based in. Here we saw that Nuneaton is using bear. We already had thoughts on making it somehow be similar to professional teams to remind our target audience of their role models and such. I have also found out that bear is a symbol of safety and it can also mean protection from harm.

One thing that I have found one Ambleside website is that they want to provide safe and happy environment to the members, so here it just confirmed that it would be nice to use a bear for it.

I offered to look into visuals during the meeting as I wanted to find some youthful designs related to sports and see what could be used there. I have found some very illustrative mascots and it seemed like a nice approach. Another thing I’ve noticed  that in such designs there is some things that are used quite often like collaging, something related to video games, graffiti, rounded edges/lines, something handwritten, bright colours/gradients, playful patterns. I shared these ideas and said that we could try implement some of them.

As we already been looking at some things we could do, I started looking at some football card designs together with Zofia and even cards that my friends used to collect when I was a kid including some cards seen in video games. I thought it would be nice to mix those elements together somehow. I have found that there’s usually some shinny areas on it and we all later spoke about it with the team that was present as we thought it would be nice for our designs to have something like this.

During our first meeting we also have been discussing the green we could. We didn’t wanted to go too far from the original colours of the Ambleside, so we decided to stick with green. This was the colour we all have agreed on during zoom meeting.

Since it was a short project, we wanted to use every chance that we get to work on this project and since we already knew that we want to use bear for our logo, we all agreed to work on some logos. I shared some of the ideas in the group chat as I thought it could also be interesting to use a paw instead of the face too.

Here is some of my logo development I’ve done that week.

This week also we have been struggling to reach out to most of the team, but I still tried to make everyone feel included and shared the plan on how we could approach the project as it seemed a reasonable approach to take.
