Since it’s my last year of university, it was time to start figuring out what I want to do after I graduate. I decided that website design might not be my first option anymore due to some restrictions within space and some elements having to be in a similar position, which affects my creativity in some cases. While it is still a solid option, I feel like I’m transitioning towards graphics made for video games and music. But this is something that isn’t properly defined by a particular field within graphic design rather than the types of designs I would like to produce. That only leaves me with a few options which are freelancing, branding and even video editing.
When it comes to freelancing by itself, I feel like it can include both of those options, though I’m not sure it is the safest exit strategy for leaving university, because for this work I should build my own presence and have some experience working in the industry. Because of that, starting by working at the design studios would be far more fitting, but in that case, it should be known which design studios are specialising in producing the projects I would like to work on and it narrows down the choices when applying for it especially if it’s location restricted.

While website design might not be my very first choice of mine anymore, it is still a very good option to use to get into a design career. Also, video editing and website design fall into brand identity too, though they are not the same as there are multiple directions to go, still, it’s nice to know these skills can be transferred and there’s a chance while doing one thing to do the other as well.
I already examined the market for website design last year and I know what skills are needed for it, though I didn’t really have time to follow through with the action plan as there have been a lot of changes in my life which took time away from me. This is something I would actually like to plan this time while making an action plan since it is indeed something that needs to be considered. As a result of what happened, some of the things will be adjusted accordingly and added to a new action plan, but they won’t be the highest priority.
Here I have started exploring skills that are required for video editing:
After Effects,
Photoshop,
Premiere,
Attention to detail (can already showcase on CV)
Ability to meet deadlines,
Staying up to trends,
Interpersonal skills (can already showcase on CV),
Team Player,
Confident,
Lottie Animation,
Knowledge of gaming (interesting jobs where I would target, so it would be needed, which I already have, I plan to create an interface design for my portfolio for one of the games I play, so it would show that I’m interested in it),
Sound knowledge,
3D modelling (blender).
These were all the jobs that are remote, which is my preference as it opens up more opportunities to work towards fields in video editing that are more interesting, for instance, gaming.
Here I also decided that it’s best for me to focus on video editing and website design for the majority of the module since 3 fields would be way too much to cover as a whole, but that does not mean that I won’t be improving.
