Feedback

I have been given a new word of the week which was feedback, but I was meant to write with this post about the feedback I have received on my blog, but I have already done that, so I have decided to write about how feedback influenced my learning.

Firstly, I was never used to receive a feedback on my work before university. I was always doing my work like photography by myself and I was self taught, so I never really had a change to receive it from someone else who would have a knowledge about the things that I was learning. It was very surprising that one of the main things that will help me to improve my learning skills will be feedback, especially the one for my peers. But to be honest, this is definitely one of them things that helps to learn better and deepen my knowledge and here’s why.

At the very beginning of my studies I was mostly asking for feedback from my tutors. But to be honest peer feedback also works even though sometimes I feel like their feedback is not perfect and it could have been done better, but then again, there’s always something that I learn when they’re giving me this feedback. It makes me think about particular things and it some cases research things if for example I don’t agree with their feedback and I want to prove that they’re wrong. Personally I enjoy researching and saying no to some things, especially if I disagree with some of the feedback. I must admit though, sometimes I don’t understand that I’m learning more about particular topic when I’m looking at my feedback, but I actually do. If I look back now to some of my work and see what kind of understanding it gave me, I can definitely say feedback had a huge influence on my work and also on the way I perceive some of the things. Here’s an example of my work before (first) and after (second) feedback:

The other thing I would like to talk about is also me giving feedback to others. Personally I just love giving feedback. The thing is that I not only use critique sessions to just give feedback, but also I use it as a tool for learning since it’s a good opportunity to apply things that I have learned during lectures. Also, I believe that it’s always better to give a detailed feedback rather than just say what I like and don’t, because I feel like it not only will help that person I’m giving feedback to improve their work, but also it deepens my own knowledge on particular topic.

To conclude this, I believe feedback is important part of my learning journey, it not only helps to improve my work, but it also helps to deepen my knowledge on the things that I’ve learned.
